Ross Outdoors was created from a father and son’s shared love of the outdoors. The company was founded in 2004 by Ross Richards.  Ross grew up in a small town in Minnesota and spent his youth hunting and fishing along the Mississippi River with his father Paul and brother Matthew.

He developed a deep passion for hunting and fishing in his formative years and passed this love of the outdoors down to his son, Josiah, who would later join him in the business.

The company started as an optics and hunting gear rental business, catering to hunters and outdoor adventurers who needed high-quality gear without committing to full purchases. As demand grew, Ross Outdoors expanded into selling high-end archery, optics & hunting gear, building a reputation for excellent customer service.

In 2011, Josiah joined the business after graduating from Northern Arizona University. Sharing his father’s passion for hunting and business, he brought fresh ideas to the company, helping to modernize marketing efforts and grow its customer base. Over the years, Josiah took on a larger leadership role, and in 2021, he officially purchased Ross Outdoors, carrying on the legacy that he and his father built together.

With a vision for expansion, Josiah opened a second retail store in Goodyear, Arizona, in May 2023, fulfilling a long-time dream. Today, Ross Outdoors operates two locations:

• Downtown Phoenix, Arizona
• West Valley (Goodyear), Arizona
